Spaces

by Samyuktha Iyer, II B.A. English

We are halls of fame for
us-shaped spaces we left
in the universe;
dreaming of bullet holes
in our spines and
waking up to no wounds-

brains like broken records
we fill the spaces within us
with the spaces without;
afraid of what lies under our
skin we call the galaxy
to flood the hollows of our
bones-
stars for eyes,
stardust for lips
we are walking solar systems;
we have no right to be this tragic.
pray.
      pray with us.

God of solutions,
may we find answers
and not drown.

God of spaces,
may we expand
and not empty.

God of suns,
may we rise bright
and not set angry.
